Shipment date overwritten by Promised delivery date

Hello,

We have a problem with our Navision set-up. For some reason whenever a user updates the 'Promised delivery date' on a sales order header, the 'Shipment date' on all of the lines of the sales order are updated also, which is not desired. At the same time the 'Shipment date' on the order header remains untouched! This behaviour is generating mess in planning order shipments.

Does anyone know if this kind of behaviour can be switched off by some parameters in Navision set-up? Is it an "error by design" or just our implementation and our own configuration?

The Navision version which we are using is 4.0 SP3.

 Best regards,

Margus Oja

When you enter a date in the "Promised Delivery Date" field a pop-up should occur that says "Would you like to update the lines?"  say "NO"

"Promised Delivery Date" in header updates the "Promised Delivery Date" in the lines(if you confirm).

On Update of "Promised Delivery Date" in the lines the "Planned Delivery Date"(="Promised Delivery Date") in the lines is updated.

On Update of "Planned Delivery Date" in the lines the "Planned Shipment Date"(="Planned Delivery Date" - "Shipping Time") in the lines is updated.

On Update of "Planned Shipment Date" in the lines the "Shipment Date"(="Planned Shipment Date" - "Outbound Whse. Handling Time") in the lines is updated.

So all these fields are related and its quite logical. So "Promised Delivery Date" in the header is not directly setting the "Shipment Date" in the lines. There are some calculations behind them.

Thanks for your quick responses. Unfortunately they did not help and I have to describe our situation in more details. The fields 'Promised delivery date' and 'Shipment date' are both in the order header and on the sales order lines. It is totally ok for users to update the fields in the header and let Navisioni to update the corresponding fields on lines.

When users update the 'Shipment date' in header then Navision updates 'Shipment date' on lines and leaves 'Promised delivery date' on lines with previous values. This is totally OK.

But when a user updates the 'Promised delivery date' in header then Navision updates both of the dates on order lines! According to my understanding and help descriptions it should update only 'Promised delivery date' on lines and leave the 'Shipment date' on lines with previous values. But for some reason it does update the 'Shipment date' on lines too with the value from the 'Promised delivery date' in the header!!!

Again - is it something common or is it just our case? Any recommendations on adjusting our configuraiton?

Ok, now I get it. Actually this is a little absurd logic. I would expect Navision to recalculate the 'Planned Shipment Date' on order lines upon changes on the promised delivery date and stop there. Overwriting the 'Shipment date' on order lines is already harmful as this field should be related to the manually updated field 'Shipment date' in the order header.

Is there any way to break the current update chain?

Header Promised Delivery Date > Line Promised Delivery Date > Line Planned Delivery Date > Line Planned Shipment Date !!! stop here no more automatic update !!! Line Shipment Date should stay untouched.

The described chain of change events does not make sense and does not match with the field description:

    Shipment Date Field

    The Sales Line Table

This field contains the date that the items on the line are in inventory and available to be picked. The shipment date is the date you expect to ship the items on the line. The program enters the shipment date from the sales header in this field, but you can change the date on the line if necessary. If you change the shipment date on the sales header, the program will give you the option to change all the shipment dates on the lines.

The field description above is logical and we really need Navision to act accoring to this. Can you suggest how can I initiate a corresponding fix in Navision?

The Explanation of the field "Shipment Date" in the help matches with how it works. By default the "Shipment Date" in the line comes from the header. If you change it in the header NAV gives you a confirm dialog to choose to update it in the lines. If you say "No" it is not updated. The "Shipment Date" fields together in the header and line do work like this.

    So the help is fine.

Your problem is different. There is a link between "Promised Delivery date" and "Shipment Date" in the lines. So if you update the "Promised Delivery Date" in the lines (either directly or because of header update) the "Shipment Date" in the lines get updated too. And you dont want this link. Also (like you said) I noticed that the reverse doesn't happen.

Please log a support case for this if you want.

N.B. The behavior is same in 60Sp1
