Can Business Central reports be edited in Excel and used to push data back to Business Central

Greetings All,

Like many businesses, the pandemic has caused many issues with our supply chain.  With 18,000+ inventory items spread out over 200+ Vendors, we are constantly updating ETA's on product that is spread out across 100+ open Purchase Orders, and impacts 300+ open Sales Orders.  Needless to say, we are searching for the most expedient way to update the "Expected Receipt Date" field on our PO's.

A suggestion to have our Partner add an editable "Expected Receipt Date" field in the Purchase Order List page was given consideration, but this would only work for PO's for a single inventory item, and a single ETA.  Most PO's contain multiple line items and therefore, multiple ETA's.

We can produce a Purchase Order Status report that pulls the information that we need (Inventory/Items/.../Reports/Orders/Inventory Purchase Orders).  This report can be filtered by Vendor and includes the inventory Item #, the Expected arrival date, and all of the PO's that contain that Item #, and we can open and edit that report in Excel, however, we are unsure if there is any way to upload the report (as an Excel file) to "push" the revised data back, perhaps similar to how we upload and apply data through Configuration Packages?

Does anyone know if this is possible?  Is there an easier, softer way that I am unaware of?

Thanks to all!

Paul

How you’ve described it, with config packages, is an on mass method of editing the line level information.

Scenario you’ve stated is very common in the fashion/apparel industry. The solutions I’ve worked with up to this point in time don’t have something SaaS ready (at the time of writing) - it is in the road map. The functionality will allow you to create containers and add purchase order lines across many orders. You then manage the expected receipt date by container.

This other app does a lot of what I mean but I’m not familiar with it: appsource.microsoft.com/.../pubid.apcommerce|aid.freightcontainerreceivingmanagement|pappid.f40bf808-7107-4854-b839-9665cbbd49a2
