Dear

The current Product Search name is 20 Characters long and we have a requirement to increase it as big as the Product Name size since it is the only field users can use to search for products , and 20 characters is not enough.

is it ok if we increase the Product Search name field size or would that have negative effect somewhere else in AX?

It's a modification I have seen made before. I don't think it'll have any particular negative effects. You might find it no longer fits into the space available on the form without scrolling, but I've never found that to be an issue.

Note that this field on InventTable is indexed, but I have no idea whether that has any bearing on how large you should make it!

Searching by product name is not possible , as you can see the Product name search is disabled on both the sales order and the purchase order

if you know a way to enable it or if there is any other way that i can search by product name , please share by all means ,

HI Silvano,

Yes it is possible.

if you are using the EDT for Product SearchName then we can change the EDT which having big size (i.e used for product name).

Better to use EDT, so whereever the search Name field is used, while synchronizing DB, system will update it everywhere.

No negative effect of doing this. But question is, is it really required. if yes then only go for change. Because seach name is alias to search. You can also use Product Name to filter it.

Hi,

Can you check the EDT for the field NameAlias of table InventTable. In standard, EDT is ItemNameAlias & its size is 50 and by chance any customization causing this shrinkage.

Hello Andre

when creating a Sales order or purchase order you can only search by search name

you can't search by Product name , the search filter (CTRL+G) is disabled for Product Name

that is why we need to increase search name field so that we can fit the Product name in it

Hi Silvano,

Of course it is possible to extend it, but do you want to do it? You can also search on the product name field. The search name field is a kind of alias for the product number.

Can you describe where and how it would be needed? Just stating it should be extended is not telling much about the user story.

I could see the stringsize Field SearchName of table EcoResProduct to be 50(standard EDT EcoResProductSearchName), which field are you referring to.
