Use different form of an entity across other entities

Hello Community,

I have a custom entity titled 'Activities'. As per the business requirement, I can have activities created against the Contracts and Contacts entities.

The default Information form is configured for use at the Contracts level. I have a set of fields that includes a lookup field reading related Contract records and all works fine.

Need to use the same Activities entity on Contacts. The same lookup field now needs to display related Contact records, but it cannot do so. Hence I created a new form and then want to use this new form when I open Activities from Contacts.

Is there an out-of-the-box configuration to associate this new form to the Contacts or JavaScript is the only way out?

Hello ,

If my understanding is correct you want to open different entity forms based on in which entity you are opening.

Unfortunately there is no OOB configuration for that , you need to write JavaScript code for that to redirect the new form passing form id based on entity type (Contacts,Contracts).

Below reference is for Dynamics CRM 2016 , although its same only you need to replace "Xrm.Navigation.openForm" instead of "Xrm.Utility.openEntityForm".
