I have been told that Dynamics 365 Marketing is not capable of creating targeted automation for leads and customers. That it can't do mass mailing and that we would need a separate email to for mass mails and drip campaigns. They also told us that if we used the Marketing tool from dynamics we are increasing our risk of getting black listed. I struggle to believe that since Microsoft email is what I use everyday! They have told us that we will need a solution like ClickDimensions to properly do our marketing and use Dynamics 365 CRM. Is this correct?
We would like to use Dynamics Marketing for lead and client emailing, drip campaigns, event management and webinar tracking with either cvent or Webex. Everything I have read and watched suggests that Dynamics Marketing can do this and do it well and that I do not need a 3rd party solution for my Dynamics 365 CRM I can just pay for Marketing. Is my research correct? Thank you in advance for your feedback!
Hi
I try to describe below a limitation if you know a workaround
We're using segment query to filter data
in the marketing email we have iteration as below:

You have purchased:

{{this.name}}

This displays ALL DATA regardless of segment query (which is a subset of records)
What is a solution as I mark this as big limitation on the personalisation
kind regards
Hello again Jessica_MV!
Sending email to leads (potential customer) is a new capability we introduced in early summer. We plan to continue extending this to accounts and other custom entities such as "Patients", or "Donors" and will communicate availability timeline once we have more concrete plans. In the meantime, we suggest you create contacts under the account and you will be able to target for example "all contacts associated to account that are in the financial industry".
As Hiag mentioned above, Marketing and Sales can share the same Dataverse environment and there is no need to set up data sync.
Customer nurturing isn't a sequential process in the modern world, and customers have control over when to interact with your marketing and sales (and service) departments. That's why we recommend having both apps be on the same environment for simplicity and timeliness reasons.
So it sounds like you are saying that natively the Marketing program is meant to only market to a list of records that are not converted / qualified records. The sales module is designed to do client nurturing. But if Marketing wanted to do customer nurturing and campaigns to prospects we could get our records in to the marketing module??! Would that mean we are working with two sets of CRM Data so we can use them in marketing? Would we get the data there with a power automate workflow?
If we did not migrate contacts to the marketing module and the CRM is not robust for drip campaigns or email automation, what would you suggest as a solution?
Hi Jessica_MV,
Here are some of the features recently released and planned for release: New and planned features for Dynamics 365 Marketing, 2022 release wave 2 | Microsoft Learn
Outbound marketing can currently relate to most entities, but it is still segmented based on contacts. Real-time marketing is segmented based on contact or lead.
Data can be shared in the same environment, and even though marketing and sales are usually not in the same environment, there are still ways to import data from one environment to another.
That you for replying Yuko Matsumoto !
A couple follow up questions,
Is this functionality new?
Is it possible to create a segment in the Marketing module of accounts(customers) and leads(potential customers, not yet ready to be converted to revenue) based on similar criteria? Ie. they are all located in Oregon and own Mac computers? (I hope my descriptions above make sense, the erp system I use now uses different terms and I am still getting used to Dynamics terms)
With this question I would like to verify I can do mass mailing to both leads and accounts, syncing the databases between Sales and marketing.
Is there a large negative to using Dynamics marketing with CRM that could be overcome with a third party? I assume like all the products it is continually being improved, so I don’t doubt that it will only get better. Do you know where the 2023 feature release schedule is?
Thank you for reading and replying, you have been a huge help!!!
Hello Jessica_MV , so glad you reached out!
Yes, Dynamics 365 Marketing can now send email, SMS, push notification to leads as well as contacts.
You can send up to 100M messages per month, and soon will be able to send up to 300M.
We also have developed a deliverability protection system to ensure good sending reputation.
I hope this information helped clear some of your questions!
