Opportunity to Quote

When I create a New Quote from an Opportunity Quotes Tab, A New Quote Form comes up and it automatically populates the following fields such as Opportunity and Name where it gets the values from the parent Opportunity Name. This is not done via Flow or Business Rules I assume, What is the mechanics behind this?

The reason I am asking is because I would like the Name under Quote to be the Quote ID instead of the Opportunity Name. I understand that I can use Business Rules or Flow to over write the values with Quote ID but I hope to address the issue at the source instead of creating another Business Rules or Flows.

I am also struggling with the Name field within each Table. I have changed them all to an Auto Number which I can use to identify a record. The Name, if not unique is not only unhelpful but can also be confusing. Not sure what is the rationale behind this, I am sure Microsoft has their logic.

    Hi partner,

For you first question, “A New Quote Form comes up and it automatically populates the following fields such as Opportunity and Name where it gets the values from the parent Opportunity Name.”, which is mapping function.

Map entity fields with Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (on-premises) | Microsoft Docs

Data mapping, in Dynamics, is used to copy data over from a field on one entity to a field on another entity.

It only works when a record for the second entity is created from a record of the original entity.

The Opportunity and Quote is 1:N relationship, you can open it and navigate to mappings tab.

For your second question, “The Name, if not unique is not only unhelpful but can also be confusing.

Yes, Name is Primary Field, which specifies the name of the attribute that is the primary field for the entity.

The value of the Name field can be duplicated unless you have set a duplicate detection rule for it.

Set up duplicate detection rules to keep your data clean - Power Platform | Microsoft Docs

Maybe you can know about GUID, which is the primary key of all entities in CRM and are sequentially generated.

If you are using UCI, you could see the GUID directly in the URL.

    RE: Opportunity to Quote

Thank you. I did make out that all these are happening under the Relationship but I am not sure how to achieve what I need.

Currently, the Name field takes value from the Opportunity ID. I want it take the Quote ID as the Name instead and therefore the Title of the Form will be Quote ID.

As a workaround, I am currently using a Flow to override the Name field value with the Quote ID, but I hope to do away from one additional flow if possible. Also more importantly, I am also trying to find out the Title of the Form gets these and what properties are there?

Title = what I highlighted in yellow

    RE: Opportunity to Quote

I continue to be on this journey and I found that the Title of the Form is tied to the value Primary Field (Name) of the Table. So in order to achieve what I need, I need to get the Quote ID into the Primary Field (Name) instead of Opportunity ID. How do I do that?

Under Relationship Mappings, I can't edit or delete this mapping.

    RE: Opportunity to Quote

    Hi Partner,

Yes, the table title is related to the value of the main field (name) of the table. If you want to show the quote ID in the title, you need to copy its value from the quote ID to the name field.

For the relationship mapping, I can see pastedimage1626834691262v1.pngicon in your screenshot, why can't you delete it?

In fact, there is no need to delete the mapping.

The quote ID is automatically filled in after the quote record is created.

The mapping field can only populate the quote field with the value of the opportunity entity, it does not help you to populate the quote field with field from quote entity itself.

Using a process to override the value of the name field with the quote ID is indeed a viable method, so you can't do away from the additional process.
