Analytic between D365 FO and Fabric ?

Hello everyone,

May I get few advices from experts here. If I want to learn about analytics in D365 FO with Microsoft Fabric, but I only have D365 FO installation from downloadable VHD (from LCS), what is the best way of doing it ? Is this possible ?
Understand that the D365 FO itself is consider as free and local, while resources for Fabric mostly Azure related, but is there any way to still able to use the data to show the integration ? then later I can use it inside Fabric. I even consider if I should buy Azure resources such the storage (Data Lake) or other component, obviously in the cheapest way possible, if I can make use my D365 FO, refresh data to build the integration more /real-time/ analytic alike.

Understand as well this is not really a D365 FO discussion, but to put this question in Fabric community is turn out to be more weird, or less popular.

Any advices are really appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hi Teevo,

For Data Lake, Synapse and Fabric, there are costs involved. You can use an Azure calculator for estimation of the costs.
To get data in a Data Lake, Microsoft provides now the Synapse Link which is available if the environment is connected with Power Platform. That is not possible with a local VHD. If you know how the data is stored, you can try to create own integration options to get data in the same structure. If you have it in a different format, you can still create reporting, but then having an environment connected to a Data Lake via the Synapse Link will need different reports.

    Hi Andre,

Thanks for your reply. I wonder if there is a Developer / Community program to exercise this ?
I'm techno-functional in D365 and wants to extend my self and somewhat change career to be data analytics but without "leaving" my experience or knowledge in D365. But I found companies using D365 FO in my area (Asia), it is very very rare to implement BI / analytics, so to have actual project in this is very difficult. But if applying for data engineer/data analyst, this is also very difficult because it needs experienced.

    Any advices ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Teevo,

Are you able to talk with your current employer about setting up an environment where you can practice exporting data to Data Lake via Synapse and create Power BI reports for your personal learning? There is no common playground in the community.
