The "New" Schedule Board

(3) ShareShare

Hello,

A couple of months back, we were forced to move to the updated Scheduled Board. With that came some unwanted changes and possibly some bugs.

Someone else with similar issues and possible a solution/work-around for the following?

1. When selecting resources to show up in the Schedule Board, it is possible to see the non-selected resources and not the ones that are selected. See attached image "selecting resources".
This makes it tedious to keep the Schedule board updated as we need to always remove all resources and rebuild the board whenever users/equipment changes. Any clue on how to fix this?

2. Previously, when pressing a Work Order from the Bookable Resource Booking details from the Schedule Board, the Work Order opened in a new window. With the new settings, the Work Order view is opened "above" the schedule board, in the same tab/window. This greatly reduces efficiency for our user on days where there's a lot of different Bookings. Any way of going back to the old style, where new windows/tabs were opened when clicking a LookUp link from the Scheduble board?

Thanks for any tips!

Mikael

    Hello Mikael,

You're not alone in experiencing these frustrations with the updated Schedule Board in Dynamics 365 Field Service. Many users have reported similar issues and workflow disruptions after the forced transition. Let's tackle your specific concerns:

    1. Resource Selection Issue (Showing Non-Selected Resources):

    • Understanding the Problem:

      • The behavior you're describing, where non-selected resources appear and selected resources are missing, is a known and widely reported issue with the updated Schedule Board.

      • It appears to be a bug related to how the board manages and displays resource filters

    • Possible Workarounds and Solutions:

      • Clear Browser Cache and Cookies: While you've likely tried this, it's worth reiterating. Sometimes, lingering browser data can interfere with the Schedule Board's rendering.

      • Try Different Browsers: Test the Schedule Board in different browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox) to see if the issue is browser-specific.

      • Resource Scheduling Optimization (RSO) Filter: If you are using RSO, and have filters set there, those filters could be overwriting your schedule board filters.

      • View Settings: Verify that the view that the schedule board is using has the correct filters.

      • Microsoft Support:

        • This issue is significant enough that it warrants reporting to Microsoft Support.

        • Provide them with detailed steps to reproduce the problem and include your screenshots.

        • They may be able to provide a hotfix or a more permanent solution

    • Temporary Workaround:

      • As you've discovered, the "remove all resources and rebuild" method is tedious.

      • Try creating and saving multiple Schedule Board tab configurations for different resource groups. This might reduce the need to constantly rebuild the board.

      •

    2. Work Order Opening in the Same Tab/Window:

    • Understanding the Problem:

      • The change from opening work orders in new tabs/windows to opening them within the same tab/window is a deliberate design change in the updated Schedule Board.

      • This change, while intended to streamline navigation, has negatively impacted the workflow of many users

    • Possible Workarounds and Solutions:

      • Browser-Based Solutions:

        • Middle-Click or Right-Click + "Open in New Tab": Instruct users to middle-click (or right-click and select "Open in New Tab") on the Work Order link in the Bookable Resource Booking details. This will manually open the work order in a new tab.

        • Browser Extensions: There might be browser extensions that can force links to open in new tabs. Explore the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons store for relevant extensions

      • JavaScript Customization (Advanced):

        • It might be possible to use JavaScript to modify the behavior of the Work Order link and force it to open in a new tab.

        • However, this would require advanced JavaScript development skills and might be affected by future Dynamics 365 updates

      • Microsoft Feedback:

        • Provide feedback to Microsoft through the Dynamics 365 Feedback Portal.

        • Express your concerns about the workflow disruption caused by this change.

        • The more users who provide feedback, the greater the likelihood of Microsoft addressing the issue

    • User Training:

      • Make sure all users are aware of the middle click, and right click open in new tab functions.

      •

    Key Recommendations:

    • Report to Microsoft Support: The resource selection issue is a bug that needs to be addressed by Microsoft.

    • Provide Feedback: Voice your concerns about the Work Order opening behavior to Microsoft.

    • Use Browser Workarounds: Train users on how to manually open work orders in new tabs.

    • Explore JavaScript Customization (With Caution): If you have development resources, consider JavaScript customization as a potential workaround.
