Changing balance sheet account structure to remove segments

Hi all,

I have a question regarding changing the balance sheet account structure to remove the additional segments, on Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.

My current balance sheet account structure is below:
MainAccount-ABusinessUnit-BCostCenter-CCostControl-DWorker-ERegion

The correct one should be:

MainAccount-DWorker

The balance sheet accounts include input Tax accounts, which is an issue as we have a huge pile of pending vendor invoices with input tax accounts what are not yet approved and will take a while to be approved.

If i am going to remove the segments i get an error on the financial dimensions of the pending invoices, which was already tested.

I have also opted to removing the Tax accounts from the Balance sheet and transferring them to the P/L (which has the same structure MainAccount-ABusinessUnit-BCostCenter-CCostControl-DWorker-ERegion) as its indifferent for me if the VAT accounts have old segments. however that was not successful either.

I need the other balance sheet accounts excluding the TAX accounts not to have the full segment rather only main account and worker.

What is the best way to do so without impacting any pending vendor invoices or expense claims.

Would really appreciate suggestions as everything has been unsuccessful,

could possibly try to setup new accounts and enable them with the new structure rule

once pending invoices are posted could reclass and move the balance

alternatively, as you are intending to remove the segments, could make them allow for blanks and then after pending transactions are posted to ledger could update the structure

Hello Hind Hindash,

In addition to what Rahul has suggested; you may also have to add the Tables TaxUncommitted and TaxUncommittedTaxTransTmp in the user role and 'Grant' the access to 'Read' in order not to face any future issues related to tax calculation due to the re-structuring of account structure.

Hello Hind,

I would not change the account structure if you have a couple of pending transactions that refer to the existing one.

Either try to get those transactions completed and invoiced or recall and delete them before making the account structure change.

Once the change is made, you can reenter them.

Hi Hind,

When I read your post, I do assume there is really a lot of pending invoices awaiting approval. Redrawing them and them make the change would be a tedious job. I would or setup a new account with another account structure or you can setup on the main account to have the dimensions blank during posting. You can do this on the legal entity override section and set fixed values for some dimensions which should be blank.

I agree changing mid flight with lots of pending transactions would make account structure updates tedious

could allow blanks for time being or fixed ones as suggest by Andre
