What are the limitations or requirements for reading from a file in a particular location in NAV?

One of my colleagues wrote a function that will prompt a user to browse of an XML file to import. The client would like to be able to import from a directory on another server. We granted the NAV service account full permission to the file location, but after selecting the file, we receive an error saying it cannot find the file.

Can NAV access a file on another server or is it limited to local drives?

Any other advice or insight is appreciated and welcome. Thanks for your time.

if you select the file from a different server using a file sharing it's needed to set to correct permissions in the file share properties.

You can certainly import the file from any of the machine, provided required shared access rights have been given to the particular files and related folder.

If you can access that particular folder from your machine, without prompting any message, you should be also able to access that file from NAV without issue.

Can you attach the exact error screen shot here?

There are no specific limitations of browsing and selecting the files from NAV that are different from your Windows OS settings. If your user have access to the file in the shared location, you should be able to read it from NAV.

There is no limitation on accessing a remote computer using Dynamics NAV, however you required to have the required shared permission. Try running Dynamics NAV in the administrator mode. It might help you.

The error is: "The file [filename] does not exist."

But it does, as we just selected it.

Try importing the file from another location and see if it is working.

It does work from other locations physically on the server, but we cannot get it to import from any other network location.

please check the folder/file permissions AND the shared permissions.

    follow www.equisys.com/.../ZTN4268.htm for details.

what is the filename? maybe there are characters like #, which can be problematic.

Use Copy file function and try to copy file from Network drive to your machine and see if it is working. Is there is any special characters in the file name?

Can you paste your code here and Network file path name?

Also attach the NAV error screen shot here?
