NAV 2013 web menu page

Posted on by 4,320

Hi

Hopefully one of the other developers out there could help with this one

I am looking use the web page functionality within NAV 2013, to create a published NAV page that has a set of buttons on it for:

Time sheet,

Time sheet approvals,

PO Approvals,

Leave applications,

Leave approvals,

Employee self service

Etc.

(This list could eventually get quite long)

This will be a standalone web launch page that will open each of these other pages in a web browser, i don't want to have to publish the complete right hand side menu, my idea will be to have the users launch this page directly from a shortcut then in their web browser they select an item off the list of options

The problem is that having all these items as buttons on the top of a page will look pretty rubbish, especially considering that the main area of the page will be blank, does anyone have an idea on how to create a reasonable looking launch page in NAV?

I am not looking for any addon product, the publishing of NAV pages meets our requirement perfectly i just need a good menu page, if needed i could write a page in ASP.NET however i want to keep it simple by having everything published out of NAV.

What thoughts?

RE: NAV 2013 web menu page

    Hi There

It is really nothing fancy, just an ASP page that contains buttons that launch the direct NAV pages

We found the links by opening up the NAV client in IExplorer and browsing to the page then checking the link so we can fire up the page directly

For this client we have hardcoded the links however we will write a config file later to be able to change server / company details a bit easier for the next client, but that will only be looked at when we have some time

    Cheers

    Nev

I understand now, the concept sounds nice. If you are willing to share, I would definitely be interested in the solution. I would like to develop a similar portal for our company.

    Hi

Yes we have built one for HR using web services, and will add other ares as we go along, however the idea here is to offer a lot more functionality that does not have a high development time requirement and therefore cost, to quickly publish a NAV page when you need something extra compared to writing a web page and web services

The custom built web portal that resizes on phones, fast loading etc will be the high end offering and the quick publishing pages will be for entry level customers that we can quickly modify as required

    Cheers

You can do this through web services. I have built a mobile order entry tool with ASP.Net MVC in C#. Do you have any experience with web services?

Looks like no simple answer, we have gone with the option of creating a menu page in ASP, this will then call the required NAV pages directly
