Understanding Sales Explosions and the dates that it produces....

My question and or issue is how AX determines the working dates for jobs. While in the sales explosion I view details on the MRPB's to see when items and or sub-contracts have been proposed to start and end.

In the screenshot below I will need the Cr Powder, The Retaining Ring material & The Mandrel material ordered and in-house because these materials are needed for the SUB HIP that is set to go out the door on 11/4/2015 and then get drop shipped to SUB gun drilled by the 12/9/2015.. As you can see in the screenshot SUB hiped isnt even due to be back in-house until 12/18 so it surely cant be sent out to SUB Gun Drilled on 12/9 to be back for 12/18.

How does AX calculate these dates because if I followed them I would never make an on_time delivery to anyone as long as I followed the AX and its scheduled work dates.

Any help with understanding how this works and or what I can do to improve and line these dates up so I get my material in-house with time to send it to my sub-contacts etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Hans,  Can you please check your BOM definition...?  As per your statement, I understand that SUB HIP is the parent (BOM Item), Items Cr Powder, The Retaining Ring material & The Mandrel material are BOM line items.  But from the given Image, looks like BOM definition is different.  MRP calculation happens based on Item coverage, Purchase lead time, Production route operation timings and Resource availability.  You have to verify all the parameters to know the root cause of your issue

I totally understand the calculation aspect based on Item coverage, Purchase lead time, Production route operation timings and Resource availability.  (Now about "resource availability"; if Im not using the "finite" setting would this part of the equation even matter?)

However, BOM definitions are different in that I don’t have a good understanding of the structure and relationships/dependencies and how they work within the BOM. Could you explain a little more in detail how you would go about setting this BOM up versus the way I have it shown in the screenshot from my previous post? This would be most helpful.

I expected a very straight forward usage of the BOM within AX but this doesnt seem to be the case.  :(

    Thanks in adavance!!

Please refer technet.microsoft.com/.../gg231411.aspx to get more details about BOM creation.  If you need any additional detail, let me know

You would have to show an image of the BOM.

Also on the BOM line see if the components are linked to the routing, rather than being needed at the start and this is extending your issue.

I cannot easily see from the image what the structure is with the redaction and manual addition of the dates I am afraid.

So you have multi-level BOM items that are linked to routing operations. So you then need to align the time they will be consumed to the scheduling of the routing steps and then explode onwards through the BOM. Kind of difficult to do from here I am afraid.
