Configuration Pack Record Limit

Hello All,

I have a client who are using configuration packages to import new items in Business Central.

I have been asked to confirm a record limit, as they may have the requirement to import 500,000 item records from a single file. I am unable to find the 'official word' on this, can someone please point me in the right direction?

Kind regards,

Carl

    Hi Carl

I am not sure of the limit, but I would break it down into smaller chunks. I was putting attributes on items using a config package, I had 110,000 and it ground the system to a halt! Luckily we were in UAT so it didn't matter. I tend to go for 10000 lines.

Hi KSJ, Thank you for taking the time to respond. My first suggestion was to split the file and I successfully performed an import of 15,000 lines in about 20 mins, which I thought was great. My client does not accept this as a solution and has requested details of limits, but I cant find that information anywhere :(

No answer on the official word but check out this Twitter thread. You will need to check a few replies: twitter.com/.../1313863852413550594

Large volumes is resulting in other choices outside of the basic migration tools to avoid volume conflicts

I don't think there is a limit on Configuration Package. Microsoft does says that they are not recommending Configuration Package for large data. It is convenient, but slow. Building your own xmlport to import data will save a lot of your time in the end.

Thanks Josh. I saw a similar presentation during this year's Directions event. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi Teddy. Thank you for your help. The overall consensus seems to agree with your comment too. Thanks again
