About item cost price

Hello everyone,

I have a question about item cost price in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.

On the tab 'manage Costs'  of item's card, there are the field 'Price' which represents the last cost price of the item.

is there a way for that price represents  the cost price calculated through stock model (Moving average in my case)?

Thanks

Check the "update" checkbox, and the latest price will update the cost price at the next inventory transaction.

This is a specification field used as an input.  It can be automatically updated but it is still an input for either future purchases or for standard cost specification.  Because of this it is not a candidate for what you want.

Display of the current cost would likely mean a customization of a new, read-only, field.

If you are wanting to update the cost to the current moving average then you are basically getting into a standard cost method.

    Hi Lamounia,

If you open the "on-hand stock" window available in the manage stock tab you can identify the current (so-called running cost) price of an item. I believe this is the best place checking an item's current cost price and requires only one mouse click more :-). That is because the price field you refer to can only hold one cost price and cannot deal with situations where you have different cost prices for different inventory dimensions such as sites, warehouses and alike. For that reason, the information you display there might even be misleading.

I suggest that you make one mouse click more and use the Standard AX functionality rather than trying to bring a value into this field that might possibly not help much.

    All the best,

    Ludwig

    @Ludwig ,

Apart from the form as you mentioned , Is there any standard report available to know the average cost value of the item ?

    Hello lally,

The only report I could think about is the inventory value report with the average unit cost price parameter selected. Yet, I cannot guarantee you that this report would give you with the correct running average cost price in each and every case. The other alternative would be using BI Tools to get this Information out of AX.

    All the best,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

can you explain why Microsoft Dynamics AX calculate the Sales price  from the cost price that can be found in the tab 'manage Costs' and not the cost price  in the "on-hand stock" window.

    Thanks.

    Hello Lamounia,

If AX would calculate the sales price based on the cost price that can be found in the on-hand window, then your sales prices would fluctuate a lot as the cost price in the on-hand window can change often. Imagine a customer orders an item in the morning and AX would calculate a sales Price of 100. If the same customer orders the same item later in the afternoon again, the sales Price might be 101, that is different.

    Hope it helps,

    Ludwig
