Restoring *closed* Opportunities that were deleted

Hi All,

One of my clients noticed some of their data went missing, and the working theory is that someone deleted Accounts and this deletion cascaded to Opportunities, etc.

This went unnoticed for some time, so a full restore from backup to live is not acceptable.

So far I restored a backup from 2 weeks before, and using Power BI I made queries that show the GUIDs of the records which exist in the backup AND are missing in the current production environment.

With Data Transporter (XRMToolbox) restoring Accounts and Contacts was simple enough. However, now it's time for Opportunities. Those which are in progress went back into Live, but those which are Closed get copied as "In progress" again.

I spoke with colleagues who normally would use SSIS/Kingswaysoft for this, and they still say that the way forward is to copy all Opportunities over, and then close them, making the sales for this month look exceptionally strong. ;)

Is there a way to disable the creation of "Opportunity Close" activities so that I could:

  1. Import Closed Opportunities
  2. Import Opportunity Close activities
  3. Bulk update the Opportunities to be Closed

The way I'm seeing this, I'd have to import the Won and Lost Opportunities separately.

I summon the collective CRM hive mind for a better way to do all this!
