how to designate the check printer in AP

We are into year three of using AX. our resident expert left the company a few months back and with her, all expertise on where to find system information inside of AX. Currently we have an issue where only one person can print checks. when another person tries to print a check, even though they specifically pick the check printer from the list, the system seems to default to another printer that no longer exists for that user. We get an error and it references the incorrect printer.

WE need to know where to go and set the default check printer to the correct printer.  we are using AX 2012 R3.

thanks

dave

    Hi isguy007,

You can have a look at the following sites that describe how to configure the check print setup.

    itsolutions.bdo.ca/.../cheque-printing-configuration-101-in-dynamics-ax

    docs.microsoft.com/.../print-vendor-checks

If those setups are already made but the other users still cannot print try to get hold on a system admin guy or a technical system expert of your system you can correctly configure the printer access for your colleagues. Maybe give your previous expert who left a call to get this fixed if nobody else has this knowledge.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I have no access to the person that left. Different country and no idea where they went... (worked for parent company).  as to the two articles, checks are already setup in the system and for this person. what is at issue here is AX is grabbing a printer from cyberspace. When you go to print the checks, we are picking the correct printer. However, after hitting the last OK, we get an error message that states that it cant print to a "phantom" printer.  this printer no longer exists. its been deleted from the VDI session, the local pc and the print server that it existed on previously. VDI has been logged out, the session cleared from Disk. The computer has been rebooted.  Its like AX is hanging onto this printer despite the fact it doesn't exist and the correct printer has been selected during the process. This is why I was headed down the path that there must be a setting someplace that has that printer listed in AX.

Ok this is the final answer. We figured it out!  What drives the check printer is not the printer selected in the Payment Advice button, but rather the printer selected in the Document button above it. when we changed the printer in that dialogue box (and we decided to check the override defaults check box), AND then select the printer in the Payment Advice button, we can not print to any printer you select. If you ONLY change it in the Payment Advice button... the printer in the Documents selection overrides the Payment Advice printer. Go figure...
