    Thanks Saurabh for referring the above links. Its really helpful.

    But i need some more details for this migration.

    1. How should i plan for that migration.

    2. During migration how components will move.

    3. Shall i need to move every component one at a time or need to move whole component. (As Solution approach will not work in this migration)

    4. Whatever customization have imposed in the On-premise how i moved the same to Azure VM.

    5. If the On-Prem version contains any 3rd party integration how i manage the same after migrate to Azure VM.

    Can you also give me some tutorial or Video Link so that i can have some idea on this.

    Thanks again for sharing the above links.

    Hello Nilanka,

    Thanks for reaching Dynamics Community forum.

    This one should help to assess your current on-premise infra :: Article 3: Assess on-premises resources for migration to Azure

    Additionally, if I look at the Azure migration tools article, the closest example article for our scenario where we are migrating Dynamics 365 on-premises which is a locally hosted .NET web application bounded to the local domain and SQL server infra to Azure VMs should be this one ::

    Rehost an on-premises app on Azure VMs ::

    docs.microsoft.com/.../contoso-migration-rehost-vm

    It very much appears that the Active directory domain along with it's objects would remain as it is which is must in our case after the VM replicate operation takes place. Some changes would be needed to point the .NET web application to the newly spun up SQL Server VMs only in case the existing SQL connection strings do not point to the new server names hosting these infra on Azure due to change in the machine name/IP address.

    Please backup CRM configuration DB (MSCRM_CONFIG) and organization DBs to a safe place before this migration.

    In Dynamics CRM .NET web application case we may need these changes.

    1. Config DB under MSCRM registry changes ::

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM\configdb

    Old Value

    DataSource=SQLServerEndpoint;InitialCatalog=MSCRM_CONFIG;Integrated Security=SSPI

    New Value

    DataSource=NewSQLServerEndpoint;InitialCatalog=MSCRM_CONFIG;Integrated Security=SSPI

    Reference article would be this documentation for "Set configuration and organization databases for SQL Server AlwaysOn failover" where these changes are bing talked about when we are changing the SQL listening endpoint ::

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/dynamicscrm-2016/deployment-administrators-guide/jj822357(v=crm.8)?redirectedfrom=MSDN#update-the-configuration-database-connection-strings-in-the-windows-registry

    2. Update the connection string in the configuration database ::

    Update Organization set ConnectionString = 'Data Source=SQL;Initial Catalog=MyOrgDB_MSCRM;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=60'

    Example of one such change on Dynamics CRM DB for SQL Server AlwaysOn failover::

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/dynamicscrm-2016/deployment-administrators-guide/jj822357(v=crm.8)?redirectedfrom=MSDN#update-the-connection-string-in-the-configuration-database

    Common connection string examples ::

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/report-data/data-connections-data-sources-and-connection-strings-report-builder-and-ssrs?view=sql-server-ver15#bkmk_connection_examples

    Hi Marco.P,

    Thanks for the information. But i really wanted to know from Dynamics CRM perspective. I just migrate Dynamics On_prem CRM to Azure VM. So what are all challenges i will face while doing that.

    At present i do not need Azure because after migration we use only CRM in Azure not we use only Azure.

    Hi,

    here are some links that i think will help you for your migration:

    download.microsoft.com/.../DeployDynamicsCRMinAzureVirtual_Machines.pdf

    Plus some advice before starting the migration:

    Anyway if you want to achieve better knowledge about the azure world for your future challenges, i suggest you to take a look at the learning material for Azure's Certifications
