Multiple Units of Measure per Item

I have seen situations where there's been a discussion of multiple units of measure and so far all of them have been for global or consistent unit of measure conversion that would be consistent across all stock codes - such as CAN --> 12-PK is always going to be a 12-1 conversion factor no matter what the stock code or SQIN --> SQFT is going to be a factor of 144 no matter what the stock code.

In our situation, we are stocking sheets of steel of various types and thicknesses. We need to stock these items in sheets. However, when they are purchased, they are purchased in pounds. The problem is this SHT --> LB conversion factor is different for each stock code.

A 1/4 inch sheet of steel weighs 326 LBS. I 3/8 sheet of steel weighs 489 LBS.

Is there a way to do this in GP 2010?

Thanks,

Yes, Richard is correct. Do not confuse Unit of Measure Schedule ID with Unit of Measure. Hopefully you can group your items by class and then have a U/M Schedule ID for each class. You then assign the U/M Schedule ID to the items and then as users do PO's and SO' they see the U/M not the U/M Schedule.

I have done this and it works,  It is just not pretty.

You will need to create a different UOM Schedule for each different configuration of steel.  Use, for example STL.25 for steel 1/4 inch thick and STL375 for 3/8" steel.
