Creating BOM

Hello, we've recently started experiencing extremely slow performance creating new BOM's on any Released Product in AX 2012. Basically we just click the engineer tab on a released product, select lines, and click the 'Create BOM' button, fill in a name and a site, and the client then proceeds to hang for 10-20 minutes.

After running a code profile on it, it seems like 99 percent of the time is spend on the BOM Hierarchy/Circularity Check. I noticed I can disable this check using the Inventory Parameters, but I cannot gauge the downsides of doing that without more research.

Is there any reason this is taking as long as it does? 2-3 minutes might be ok but 10-20 is excessive, do most people just turn this off and run a batch job? Is there something that could be amiss in our current BOM's that would make this so excessive?

You have to search some levels deeper to see if it is code related or related to long running queries.

Do you have setup a maintenance plan on your SQL server? Without regulary reindexing and update of statistics AX can become very slow after a while.

Also check if there could be a hotfix for some problems with performance related to BOM. We found some interesting hotfixes for other areas where AX was reponding very slow.

If you haven't done so, consider using the Trace Parser to look at how the time is spent during the BOM circularity check.

Hi, may i ask you how to disable the BOM Check?

I don't know where Inventory Parameters is exactly located. Could you please guide me by steps?

    Thank you in advance
