Duties and Privelages attracting an Enterprise licence

We have an number of customised roles within AX and they are attracting enterprise licences - rather than functional.

Is there a quick way, long way or any way to report which particular duties and privileges within a role would attract an enterprise licence?

I assume you are mentioning the new/current AX (AX 7) as stated in the tags.

Entering System administration/Security/Security configuration you will see a list of roles at the left. Right-click on any of them and choose View permissions (or use similar button over the list). You will then see a list of all menu items this role gives access to, the duty and privilege this menu items belongs to and, in the rightmost column, also the license type triggered the menu item. Probably, there will be thousands of menu items listed so using Open in Microsoft Office/Export to Excel is a good idea. This can be done for roles, duties and privileges.

Alternatively, we (CGI) have a tool to give similar overview for AX 2012 and the new AX, but where the drill-down can be started from a specific user, then his/her roles, duties etc.

    HI Bruce,

Please explain which version you are referring to. You used the tag for the new Microsoft Dynamics AX, but you are also mentioning about the functional CAL. In the new AX, there is no functional CAL type anymore. Here we have Enterprise, Task, Selve serve.

    Hi Bruce,

In that case you have used the incorrect tag on your post. I will correct this for you. For AX 2012 you can download the Security Development Tool from Lifecycle services (downloadable tools section) and analyse the license type in details.

I also created some blog posts with tips for this tool. You will need to read some of them to get the correct values for the license type.

Thanks for that, Andre. I was actually reading over the blog posts yesterday afternoon from start to finish.

What I was originally looking for was whether or not it was possible approve, reject, delegate Invoice Journals in Purchase Ledger through Enterprise Portal without the requirement for Enterprise Licences. It seems it is not possible because of the privilege to view supplier invoice transactions contains an entry point to 'LedgerJournalTable9' which attracts an enterprise licence for View and Maintain. If i remove that permission the ability to approve etc disappears.

    Hi Bruce,

There are some permissions for approval needed as well as permission to open the form related to the approval document. This combination could indeed cause this role to be an enterprise CAL type. Journals are in most times counted as enterprise. In the past I could manage for another workflow that the users remained on functional level rather than becoming enterprise which was suggested initially by their implementation partner. This customer could save license costs for almost 50 persons.
