Hi all,

I'm working with the Warehouse Management module within AX 2012 R3.

Which are the configurations that I should take into account in order to achieve a FIFO picking strategy? Location directives? Model groups? Work templates?

Thanks in advanvce.

    Hi Nick,

    Take into account these two

Stock management - setup - stock - item model groups ...

    technet.microsoft.com/.../aa577092.aspx

Sales ledger - setup - sales ledger parameters ...

    technet.microsoft.com/.../aa576993.aspx

    Regards,

    V

Are you using any of the Inventory dimensions which can help AX determine which inventory was First In? For example, Batch?

Thanks for your answer and the links, Viesturs. I will check them. I have found out that the "FIFO date controlled" parameter on the Model Group cannot be activated with WHS items.

Thanks for your answer Guy. Batch dimension wasn´t intended to be active, but Serial was.

Were you planning on reserving Serial number to the sales order? I guess not, in which case you'll have serial below location in the reservation hierarchy.

Is there a way to know which serial is oldest? Lowest serial number? (Not sure that'll help, i'll test it later).

RE: WHS - FIFO picking strategy

    Hi Nick,

In case you have an item serial number activated and you want to make sure system does FIFO picking based on serial numbers then try following

Scenario 1 : Reserving serials at the time of orders creation

For this case keep serial number above location in the reservation hierarchy  so that AX will reserve serial numbers based on lowest serial number first and when they are released to warehouse you are always picking serial in ascending order on work lines.

You can use purchase orders with automated serial numbers generation and in the number group for the serial number you can have "only for inventory transactions" so that system gives serials as soon as purchase transaction is created.

Scenario 2 : Serial numbers not reserved at the time of order creation

In case you dont want serials to be reserved as soon as you make sales order you can keep serial numbers below location in reservation hierarchy and use a location directive with none strategy and in the sorting tab you can sort locations with serial numbers in ascending manner.

This will make sure that you pick serial numbers in ascending order as the lowest serial number states earliest arrival generally.

    e.g.

    PO 1   --   110 qty   Serial 1   -   Serial 110

    PO 2  --    110 qty    Serial 111 - Serial 220
