Long Running Script

Hi there,

I have a couple end users who are receiving a Long Running Script error in Internet Explorer when their dashboard in CRM loads and when trying to save a Lead.  Sometimes they get the error and sometimes they don't.  Overall, the speed of IE seems slow and if the user uses Chrome, they never have any issues.  Not every user is having this issue in IE.

So far I've tried the following:

  1. Reseting IE (Internet Options > Advanced > Reset)
  2. Deleting files in %Temp%
  3. Checking "Disable Script Debuging" and unchecking "Display a notification about every script error" under Internet Option

Some additional information:

  1. CRM is listed under Intranet Sites
  2. Intranet Sites are checked to be viewed under Compatibility View.
  3. We are version 8.2, on premise
  4. Everyone is using IE 11
  5. There is no custom JavaScript on any Leads form.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff

    Hi Everyone,

I think I found the issue (It's been a couple days without any complaints from end users).

The users having the issues were using Surfaces.  I had to go into Control and change the Power Options for Internet Explorer.  I set JavaScript Timer Frequency to Maximum Performance for battery.  That caused the script issue to go away.  What's interesting is they got this error while using battery and plugged in, but once this change was made, performance was greatly improved.

Not sure why I didn't think of this earlier, but I opened Performance Center, enabled.  Closed IE.  Opened IE and opened Performance Center.  The step for Initialize WRPC tokens took 10452 ms.  On a computer that is not having the issue, it took 843 ms.

Hi Goutam, thanks for the response.

By uninstalling IE, I'm assuming you wanted me to remove IE 11 feature and add back?  I did that and it seemed to help a little, but IE is still slower than it I'd expect.  Once CRM loads, it seems to be okay but IE takes around 8-10 seconds to load in IE versus an eye blink in Chrome.  The script error message hasn't appeared yet, so getting closer I think.

    Hi Jeff,

This seems to be a browser issue as specified. Try to see if you can reinstall or repair IE on the machine, or possibly run IE in Administrative/Compatibility mode see if that helps in any way.

    Hope this helps.

    RE: Long Running Script

    Hi Jeff,

Try to inspect what is the customization that needs to be improved. In IE, you can use developer tools (F12) and go to network. Inspect what's resource that you take, also you can get information about time used to get that resource. After that you just need to refactor some code. Sometimes people are doing to much CRUD in javascript instead doing it in plugin.

    Hope this help.

    Hi Jeff,

This is actually browser issue , seems you did most of the important step for this . I would suggest better to uninstall ie browser and install again.

I have faced this issue in my last project but no luck this specific machine related issue , so try to install ie browser newly.

    Hope this helps.
