Giving Priority to production orders

Hello, I am working with an Ax system with unfinite capacity. HOw can I give priority to planned production orders which are simultanously planned for the same date, meaning: today?! I want to put 1 specific order in front, in order to check if all materials are readily available with an explosion.

Thanks in advance!

Michael

Use the priority field on the setup tab of the works order to indicate one should be scheduled in front of the other.

Where can I find the setup tab? I can see the priority column if I click on a planned production order, but I cant alter it. Each order has priority "0".

You cannot do it from the planned screen - the theory is you firm them, then add it into the order and schedule.

Hi. This is a similar question: is there a "priority field" setup for the sales team to designate what orders are priority so my production team can decide which ones to schedule for production first?

No, because there is not necessarily a direct relation and few production managers would let the sales team drive priority - get them to use the delivery date - the system then plans back from there which in itself is the priority, then capacity and material come into it and the communication between production and sales.

Thanks for the input Steve. In this case, AX is at an early stage (4 mos old) and the shipping date is defaulted to 2-weeks to manage expectations. Production is driven by sales orders, do you see any quick fix or functionality to prioritize sales orders?

You can prioritise sales orders but what you want is to prioritise production.  You need to decide on a process and a flag on each and then adjust to reflect the priority - lots on the sales header you could use, production pool or group on the order. This would be a manual update, because AX wants you to work on dates in reality, otherwise all planning is rubbish anyway!
