Question on the future of Dynamics NAV

Hi:

I have a potential client that wants a system that provides only GL, AP, AP, Fixed Assets & Budgeting.

I am considering recommending Dynamics NAV. I have a few questions:

1. How long is Microsoft committed to Dynamics NAV?

2. Will Dynamics NAV be ultimately integrated/swallowed up into the Dynamics 365 concept?

3. Can Dynamics NAV be licensed/sold to a company operating out of the Caribbean?

4. How customizable is it? What is the code base programming language? (C etc?)

RE: Question on the future of Dynamics NAV

    hi,

    some answers for you.

    1) At least two other versions are announced, Microsoft said it will continue supporting NAV, more info will be revealed in the upcoming events (some are under NDA)

    2) For now there is 365 that is developed by NAV + some integrations from other tools, there are two distinct product development lines for different technology, but eventually converge (some native features of 365 are also present on NAV but not active, Active instead only for 365). 365 is embedding a bit at a time all the NAV functionality.

    3) yes, i think, but not sure about your question.

    4) C/AL vs A/L

C/AL is application langiage for NAV, AL for 365

    differences:

NAV - C/AL (you can customize anithing)

C/AL (Client/server Application Language) is the programming language used within C/SIDE the Client/Server Integrated Development Environment in Microsoft Dynamics NAV

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd355277(v=nav.90).aspx

365 - AL Code for Extensions

you can use C/AL events to extend and customize objects only.
