Data migration from on-premise to online without much development

Posted on by 10

Hello,

I have a client who has near 40 users and several gigabytes of data in On-Premise Microsoft Dynamics 365 instance. There are not so many customizations, mainly several new fields and entities.

They are considering migration to Online version, what is the best approach to do data migration since customizations migrations are pretty straightforward? I know there is a Kingswaysoft add-on to SSIS to setup migration packages, but maybe there is some new approach to make the process easier with data migration without much development.

Microsoft or a good partner can help get you into fast track. As an MVP I can also help nominate you. The migration to move from Onpremises 2011 and up is done. it moves all your data, your solution files etc. But that's the data migration part that used to take a bunch of hours writing code.  This eliminates the need for the kingswaysoft, scribe or SSIS approach. You will then still have to go thru your ISVs and customizations are they are likely out of date, and need to be updated to work with the new UCI (new interface) and latest versions from those vendors. Its a great opportunity to help clean things up too (archive data, clean up bulk jobs, etc.). a company like www.congruentx.com is well versed in doing upgrades and we would be glad to assist you on your journey to online.

Hi - you should contact us about running this activity through the Echo Managed Service (www.synchronicity-systems.com/echo).  It usually works out about 10% the cost of a services led migration, and everything (all data) is migrated.

    Hi, Misha!

I recommend you to try this tool: uds.systems/.../data-migration-tool

It is relatively new and was designed with a purpose to automatically migrate data from on-premise to the cloud.

Check the tutorial before using the tool: www.youtube.com/watch

It might prevent you from common issues that usually occur.

Hope, my comment was useful) Have a nice day!

    Agree with Bipin,

Fasttrack is great option to manage this migration, however, pay attention if the customer has an eligible subscription to access Fasttrack services:
