Import Product Line Items to Opportunity

I would like to be able to add Product Line Items to an Opportunity via spreadsheet, or other import file.

The use-case is that we have a quoting tool built in Excel. The salesperson answers a series of questions and then at the end of the survey a quote is created that has 15, or more, line items. Currently the sales person creates an opportunity in D365 and manually enters the line items on the Product Line Items tab. I would like to give the salesperson a way of importing those items so they don't need to be manually entered. Since the quoting tool is home-grown I can create any format of output needed.

I have the same question (0)

RE: Import Product Line Items to Opportunity

    Hi Dan,

You could create a system view of Opportunity Product, as mentioned in my last reply, the view contains all columns.

Then users can go to this view through "See all records" of the Opportunity Line Items.

Then export to the static worksheet.

The system view needs to be created in https://make.powerapps.com/ or System > Customizations.

Yes, I am using Sales Professional. I was able to create a template and get it to work (leaving columns A, B, & C empty). It does exactly what I need.

The last thing is allowing the sales people to run it.  I don't want them having to navigate to Data Management. What would be nice, is if there was a way to initiate the import from the Opportunity Products tab. This is the only thing that they should be importing.

    Hi Dan,

    Are you using Sales Professional?

The import template for Opportunity Product in Sales Professional does have only a few fields and the Opportunity column is missing.

When using Sales Professional, we should export the view as a template instead of using the OOTB template.

Open Advanced Find, search for Opportunity Product, then Edit Columns.

Add Columns and select all fields.

    Click Results, then export it.

In Excel, drag out the hidden columns A, B, and C. Only when the A, B, and C columns of a row of data are empty, this row will be regarded as creating a new record. If the A, B, and C columns of a row of data contain values, then this row will be regarded as updating an existing record instead of creating a new record.

RE: Import Product Line Items to Opportunity

    Lu,

Thank you, but my experience is slightly different.

When I navigate to "Settings > Data Management > Templates for Data Import" I do not see "Opportunity Line". Instead I see "Opportunity Product":

    pastedimage1607033064796v1.png

That seems like the proper template, but when I download it there is not a column for "Opportunity". The other columns you mention are there. If I create a view which includes the column "Opportunity" and download that template I can see it. I was then able to create and import an Excel file to an opportunity.

My next issue is that I want the sales person to be able to do this. Ideally a control, or option, on the Opportunity Products section. Is this possible? Or do I need to go through Settings-> Data Management each time?

    Hi Dan,

Step 1. Go to Settings > Data Management > Templates for Data Import, select Opportunity Line and download.

Step 2. Edit Excel, enter the data. These columns are required: Select ProductExisting ProductUnitQuantityOpportunity.

Note that the value in the lookup field column is the name of the record, and must be exactly the same as it, including case and space.

Step 3. Import the Excel into D365.
