UNC Path for EFT for Payables

Our client has been using EFT with a UNC path for payables for several years.  They just renamed all their directories and moved things to a new server.  The UNC path went from \\XXXX\XXXXXXXXX\XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\EFT total length of  37.

to \\XXXXXX.XX\shares\Accounting\XXXXXXXXX\XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\EFT  total length of 60.

Now we get the message:  The EFT file could not be generated in the path specified for PM Domestic Payments in Checkbook EFT Payable Options.

I have tried taking it down to just the Accounting folder then EFT and no luck.  That is shorter so I don't know that length is the problem.  It is not security because we can get it to work if we do Drive letter mapping.  Client refuses to continue to use Drive letter mapping, so I have to find a solution.

Any ideas or solutions?

    Hello Robyn,

That is likely too many files deep.

Here is what we have noted on our EFT blog:

    support.microsoft.com/.../guidelines-to-follow-when-you-generate-eft-files-or-eft-prenote-files

Note: In the output path that you choose, make sure the folders or file name you save to do not have any spaces, numbers or special characters (periods, dashes, etc). For example, if you named the file 'prenote1.txt' or 'prenote 1.txt', you should make it 'prenote.txt' instead.

Make sure the path is not too many folders deep. (less than 3 folders)

Make sure the path is not longer than the visible length of the field in the window.

If using Web client, make sure to test on the thick client.

Note: If you would like the filename to have an extension, enter it right in the output file path. For example, name the file as 'prenotex.tt' if you want the .txt extension on the out put file.

I would bump back to just the main share location \\XXXXX.XX\Shares and see if that works. If it does, add a folder until it break. Wherever that is, is the limit.

    Hello Robyn,

My colleague actually just updated the article I noted above to add in Periods as problem items.

In your path I see a period. Is this intentional?

Can we test a path without the period?

    Thanks!
