General Journal Workflow: Journal submitter is also in the workflow approvers' group

Hi,

We are operating AX version: 6.3.3000.111  CU10 and I am experiencing a problem in workflow.

The department has promoted an employee who usually submits journals. This employee will continue to submit journals for approval, and this employee will also approve other users' journals.

However, AX throws the following error:
Stopped (error): X++ Exception: Unable to continue. Submitter and approver are mapped to the same user
 at SysWorkflowWorkItem-create
SysWorkflowWorkItem-createWorkItems
SysWorkflow-save
SysWorkflowQueue-resume

On another site, a user points out that there is a fix to this, but this page (linked below) is inaccessible.
https://fix.lcs.dynamics.com/Issue/Resolved/1162660?kb=3127006&bugId=3650670

Can someone tell me how to allow a workflow approver to create and submit journals without crashing the workflow, meanwhile preventing him/her from approver his/her own workflow items?

    Hi Isha,

This link does not work for me as well, however, I'm able to see it using search by KB number "3127006" or try this link

    Hi Isha,

Can you check whether the parameter 'disallow approval by submitter' is active under System administration/Setup/Workflow/WorkflowParameters?

If so, try to deactivate it.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thanks to you both.

In System Administation > Setup > Workflow...  the  checkbox is checked. what i have not tested, is - if I uncheck it, can I approve my own journals? That's not the behavior I want. I want the user to be a creator and an approver, but unable to approve his/her own journals.

By the way, it took a while to finally get to the article. Here is what it says

    Problem:
The "Disallow approval by submitter" Parameter disallows entire submitter's user group from approval.

    Description of change:

The changes in the hot fix resolve this issue.

The solution is add logic to the user resolution (i.e participant resolution) to prevent users who do not meet the criteria to be added to the user list. If there is more than one user returned from the participant solution, the code has been changed to validate if those users meet the criteria of "Disallow approval by submitter", and if the do, the user is not added to the list (thus no error will be thrown at runtime, which would cause workflow to fast as it does today).

There's a hotfix, but the link to it did not work.

    Hi Isha,

Can you try attaching the screenprint again as we can't see it.

Please save the screenprint and then upload it through the rich formatting form.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

@Ludwig Reinhard I unchecked the checkbox and it is working as I would like. I cannot approve my own journal. it is no longer throwing the exception.

So now I am wondering what is the purpose of this checkbox? If I leave it unchecked, it is not allowing me to approve my own journals (good), but what will it cause in my other workflows (i.e AP)?

    Hi Isha,

What effect this parameter change has on your other workflows is difficult to say without having details about your other workflows. I assume that at the end of the day you will have to test them one by one to ensure that there is no negative impact caused by the parameter change.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
