AX 2012 - automatic AOS service restart

(0) ShareShare

Hello,

Because of permanent AOS memory usage grow (after each AOS restart, AOS process takes, slowly but constantly, more and more RAM), I am wondering if scheduling regular restart of AOS process would not be workaround; did anyone decided to set such a restart? Or there are maybe other methods to limit memory consumed by AOS service (some memory flush or anything else) without restarting process itself?

regards

Tomasz

High memory usage isn't a problem necessarily. Why shouldn't the AOS take advantage of the memory available? Do you have a serious problem there? Or is it just some kind of bad feeling about it?

A good and related blog post on that topic would be this one by Tariq Bell: community.dynamics.com/.../how-to-handle-high-memory-situations-on-your-dynamics-ax-aos.aspx

How much memory do you consider to be "too much"? In my experience, it is perfectly normal if AX2012 AOS consumes 1-3GB of RAM.

didn't mention that explicite, sorry - yes, problem with our infrastructure is that AX is slow; from time to time evem extremely slow causing users to complain, education to be delayed/stopped etc. - and this is the reason why I am trying to find bottlenecks.

servers' monitoring shows all parameters of all involved machines ok, except this AOS memory usage growing; in the past it becomes 'solution' taken from our developers - if ax becomes slow, let's restart AOS, and.. it worked. that is why I am considering not to automate AOS restart; not as a solution but more workaround..

and server has 16gb; AOS is now at ~8gb and still slowly growing, so I assume not 'normal'.. :)

    Hi Tomek,

Read the next blog. Perhaps you have the same issue and need just a kernel fix. What version of AX2012 are you using (also the CU version)?

    www.kaya-nederland.com/ax2012-memory-leak

But I guess it will not solve all your performance problems. Lately we solved performance problems in 5 main processes of a customer. Also CU5 has some performance issues solved.

    Hello Andre,

Thanks for this info, hoped it may be solution - but no, seem our version is much higher than one mentioned:

I guess this post was valid for 2012, not 2012R2; if you would be aware of similar issues with kernel for R2 let me know please, will check it as well.

    regards

    Hi Tomasz,

It is indeed for AX2012 RTM and the feature pack. You are running R2.

It might be possible that there are similar issues in R2. I have not seen it yet.

Looking at your version number I guess you already installed CU1 as well.

This might be a long shot, but one place where I saw massive memory consumption was when producing a lot of project invoice lines where the Company Logo was a huge bitmap (bmp). Some of these reports store the logo once for each invoice line, and in such a scenario the logo is stored in memory. The AOS memory consumption grew rapidly to like 12 GB of RAM.

To put it another way; it might very well be that you have a memory leak. If you can identify where the memory starts to grow, you are on your good way to find out why. :-)
