Dear Members,

This might be have been answered before and also the category might be wrong but your usual support will be appreciated.

I am unable to access old attachments in D365 F&O (On Prem) on version 10.0.0.17 Update 38. The situation is explained below for better understanding:

  1. All SSL Certificates expired on 24th August 2021 (Internal CA)
  2. Renewed the SSL and started the Certificate Rotation (based on MS best practice) but it failed as the SSL was already expired.
  3. Deleted the PRD solution from LCS and deployed out-of-box solution with demo DB (with renewed SSL Certificates)
  4. Uploaded all Customization packages
  5. Restored the PRD Database and synced without any issues.
  6. New Data entered can be accessed along with attachment
  7. Old PO & PRs that were submitted prior to SSL Certificate are now inaccessible.

When we try to open PO or PR it opens with all data that was entered on the form but as soon as you click on the attachment the below exception is thrown:

An error has occurred. An error occurred reading from the storage provider.Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.FileManagement.DocumentStorageProviderException at Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.FileManagement.StorageFrameworkDocumentStorageProvider.GetFile(DocumentLocation location) at Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Services.Platform.FileManagement.BaseFileOperations`1.ProxyFileToUser(DocumentLocation location, IDocumentStorageProvider storageProvider, Boolean isInline) at Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Services.Platform.FileManagement.BaseFileOperations`1.PerformDownload(String fileId, Boolean forDisplay, Boolean thumbnail) at Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Services.Platform.FileManagement.FileManagementOperations`1.Download(String fileId, Boolean forDisplay, Boolean thumbnail) at Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Services.Platform.FileManagement.WebApi.FileManagementController.Download(String fileId, Boolean forDisplay, Boolean thumbnail) at lambda_method(Closure , Object , Object[] ) at System.Web.Http.Controllers.ReflectedHttpActionDescriptor.ActionExecutor.<>c__DisplayClass10.<GetExecutor>b__9(Object instance, Object[] methodParameters) at System.Web.Http.Controllers.ReflectedHttpActionDescriptor.ExecuteAsync(HttpControllerContext controllerContext, IDictionary`2 arguments, CancellationToken cancellationToken) --- End of stack trace from previous location where exception was thrown --- at System.Runtime.ExceptionServices.ExceptionDispatchInfo.Throw() at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.TaskAwaiter.HandleNonSuccessAndDebuggerNotification(Task task) at System.Web.Http.Controllers.ApiControllerActionInvoker.<InvokeActionAsyncCore>d__0.MoveNext() --- End of stack trace from previous location where exception was thrown --- at System.Runtime.ExceptionServices.ExceptionDispatchInfo.Throw() at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.TaskAwaiter.HandleNonSuccessAndDebuggerNotification(Task task) at System.Web.Http.Controllers.ActionFilterResult.<ExecuteAsync>d__2.MoveNext() --- End of stack trace from previous location where exception was thrown --- at System.Runtime.ExceptionServices.ExceptionDispatchInfo.Throw() at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.TaskAwaiter.HandleNonSuccessAndDebuggerNotification(Task task) at System.Web.Http.Dispatcher.HttpControllerDispatcher.<SendAsync>d__1.MoveNext()An error has occurred.File reference for 'file://d365adfs/aos-storage/documents/996D8521-2820-4DA1-BF33-91CFDD8C4D3E' could not be found.Microsoft.Dynamics.Platform.Integration.Storage.StorageProvider.StorageProviderItemNotFoundException at Microsoft.Dynamics.Platform.Integration.Storage.FileStorageProvider.FileStorageProvider.GetFileReferenceFromDirectAccessUri(Uri uri) at Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.FileManagement.StorageFrameworkDocumentStorageProvider.GetFile(DocumentLocation location)

    Hi Mohammad,

When you initially experienced the rotation error, did you contact Microsoft Support for assistance?

Note that I'm not an on-premise expert; below is just some suggestion based on my observations about instance related storage accounts.

I think the AOS storage now has a new GUID as directory. You can try to check the local file system and copy the documents from the old production folder to the new production folder.

Hi Andre, Thank you for the response. Yes, as the complete Production was down so we opened a ticket Microsoft and they guided us through to bring the application up. As per their suggestion, we performed all steps and tried restoring the DB as mentioned above (backup of the DB was taken on 24/08/2021). All old documents are in the folder and in the config we have the path "E:\Shares\aos-storage\documents". On querying the GUID of the document, it is found there but the Application is not able to show the document. The D365 FO; under PO & PR shows there is an attachment but is unable to open this document.

    Hi Mohammad,

I would suggest to contact Microsoft support again for help on this issue.
