Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations - Version Upgrade

Hi everyone.

I hope you are all well.

I haven't been able to find information on how Dynamics 365 Upgrades are priced, i.e. We are currently being charged R200 000 (South African rands) - $11 228 (US Dollar), and I would like to know what this comprises of? Are we being ripped off? Is this amount for the process involved in testing in the UAT? Is this because upgrades are done manually? What would happen if we did not use a consultancy to do the upgrade? Would it just update to PROD automatically (with a potential for issues).

This is the version info:

Installed product version : 10.0.39 (10.0.1860.149)Installed platform version : Update63 (7.0.7198.167)

I look forward to your responses.

Kind regards,

J

You last line is probably the most important - yes it would get pushed to PROD. The potential issues depend on how many customisations and ISVs you have. You could maybe ask your partner for a breakdown of the work? The price will be based on how much time they will spend on various activities as consultancy, there is no material or licensing cost to a Service Update.

Understanding the pricing for Dynamics 365 upgrades can be a bit complex, as it often depends on various factors such as the specific modules you’re using, the number of users, and any additional services or customizations included in your package.
Given that you’re being charged R200,000 (approximately $11,228 USD), it would be helpful to break down the invoice to see what specific services and modules are included. This will give you a clearer picture of whether the pricing is fair or if there might be areas where you can optimize costs.
If you have access to the detailed invoice or contract, reviewing it with a Microsoft Dynamics 365 specialist or a trusted IT consultant could provide more insights. They can help you understand each line item and ensure you’re getting the best value for your investment.

    What did you upgrade from?

I understand that someone charged you for doing the upgrade - didn't they give you any information about what you're paying for? You definitely should now (even before giving the contract to them) whether testing was in scope or not.
