Voucher Number duplication from DIXF and manual

Hi,

I enter Journal Entries manually and through DIXF excel import,

While creating through DIXF, I check the Next Voucher Number and populate into Excel.

Now if I make a manual journal entry after importing through DIXF the voucher number gets repeated and I am unable to post the manual journal.

How can I make sure it doesn't gets repeated?

Thanks.

    Hi MYGz!

    How did you check Next Voucher Number? Did you check this in number sequence?

    After importing, did you increase Next Voucher Number in number sequence?

    Hi MYGz,

    When you provide the value manually in Excel, there is no check or updates on the number sequence. So, like Rustem suggested, you have to alter the next number manually. However, this might cause issues or auditors might not be happy with this.

    Usually, I do enable the temporary voucher option on journal names which are used with DIXF or other similar actions. Then you can provide any value from Excel, but during posting, it will replace it with the correct number from the voucher number sequence. See also my blog about this topic: kaya-consulting.com/temporary-voucher-functionality-dynamics-365 (written for Dynamics 365, but the same applies for AX2012)

    @Rustem

    Yes I get the voucher number from the voucher number series number sequence. I'm Using Set-based processing with default general journal dmf entity to import the journals. Haven't made any changes to it.

    @Andre

    Can I insert code in dmf entity class to modify nextval in systemsequences table? I'll select the max voucher number from the excel file, increment by 1 and set it in systemsequences. Is there a way we can do this? I'm not aware of how the EntityClass methods are called, if it's sequential for each row or entire staging table is passed at once to target table.

    I was reading the below article and this is what I found:

    1. For JournalNum: I can't use Auto-Generated since I have many lines in 1 voucher and there are many vouchers in 1 Excel file.

    2. For Voucher: I can't use Auto-Generated since I have to use set-based processing because of point 1.

    Article: docs.microsoft.com/.../tips-tricks-import-general-journal-entity

    The temp voucher that you suggested in your blog is not feasible for me as I have to deal with lot of errors while importing and it will be hard to troubleshoot if the voucher numbers are different in excel and error log.

    Thanks.

    Hi MYGz,

    I assume you want to update the number sequence table, not the systemsequences. The last one is used for maintaining record IDs. For sure, you can try to customize it, but there will be no guaranteed continuous number sequence anymore. What if you did skip a number in Excel and set the next sequence value? It will never re-use the skipped number anymore.

    I'm also not sure where to start a possible customization as I never looked how to change the GL journal entity apart from adding fields. What would be possible, it to import the Excel sheet with "temporary voucher numbers". Then develop a new function which will already replace the temporary voucher numbers before you post the journal. In this way, you can use the standard logic to retrieve the number sequence values and have the continuous setting also working correctly.
