Fixed asset Depreciation run date to be 1st of the following month

Hi,

Is there any possibility that we can set up the Depreciation run date in a Value model to be the 1st of the following month after the asset has been acquired? The Depreciation convention setup don't include such option.

Thank you in advance!

S.

    Hi Serene,

You can do that by manipulating the fields 'placed in service' and 'last depreciation run date'. Yet, this requires a manual change at the fixed asset value model.

Have you tried making use of fixed asset calendars?

Another alternative that I could imagine would be using depreciation profiles schedules.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

    Many thanks for your reply.

How can we make use of fixed asset calendars? And could you please tell me how to make use of Depreciation profile schedules in this case?

    Thanks!

    Hello Serene,

Depreciation schedules are basically a manually specified depreciation schedule that can be setup under the depreciation profiles setup form. If you set the depreciation method to 'manual' an additional button at the top of the form becomes active that allows you specifying depreciation period intervals. Not sure if this this works in your case. So, you would need to test it.

Fixed asset calendars can be setup at the value model level and allows you to link a calendar to your value model. I would imagine that this can be the right solution in your case if you setup a calendar with a 1 day shifted period. Also here you would Need to test if this fixes your issue as I have hardly worked with them in practice.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

What do you mean with "a 1 day shifted period"?

    Hi Serene,

I checked that in my demo machine and believe that the only option available is the 'placed in service' and 'last depreciation run date' Manipulation. Other than that you would have to implement a system adjustment in my opinion.

    Best regards,
