Dynamics 365 Submitted Sales Order Amend Challenge

i CRM cohort.

We are using Dynamics 365 Sales with Dynamics 365 BC, where we have integration of sales ordered between two apps.
Once the order is submitted from Dynamics 365 Sales to BC, the record - Sales Order in Dynamics 365 Sales is locked for further changes:
"Read-only This record’s status: Submitted".
After certain period, before posting sales shipment and sales invoice for that order in BC, customer has decided to add more items to existing order. I am aware that can be done on order in BC but those changes will not be updated in Dynamics 365 Sales.
Does anyone now how to open locked sales order in Dynamics 365 Sales so salespeople can enter additional item there? Or how to transfer updates Sales Order Lines in BC to order in Dynamics 365 Sales?

I also know that posted sales invoice can be sent from BC to Dynamics 365 Sales but initial order in Dynamics 365 Sales remains the same.

Cheers.

    Hello,

Well it's sort of by design and process is sort of one way.  Sales order integration is somewhat special as it uses Salesorderintegratoin organization setting (IsSOPIntegrationEnabled) in D365 Sales, which effectively means sales order is done in D365 Sales, it's up to ERP or 3rd party to continue handling sales order further (you can read more about it in our docs as well).

We have many limitations due to Submitted status of sales order in D365 in terms of what we can synch back (e.g. that's why we post to timeline feed). Also if partial shipments or invoicing are done on BC side, there's also a lot of limitations in terms of changes that can be pushed back from Sales to BC.

I'm currently collecting arguments to abandon this approach, as:

    - This is a setting that was done long time ago (i think for Dynamics GP integration)

    - Sales team has frequent regressions in this area

    - I've heard multiple times about these limitation.

For example, F&O does not rely on IsSOPIntegrationEnabled setting which I believe gives them a bit more freedom in terms of sycnhing things back and forth in sales orders.

I'd propose to log suggestion for this so we can have it planned in one of upcoming release waves.

I'd also expect, that with customization capabilities partners can override this where needed.

    Thanks.

    Hi Marco.

Thanks for the reply. Your support is highly appreciated.

In our business case, submitted sales order from D365 Sales is not shipped or invoiced or having status Released or Pending Prepayment in D365 BC. For that business case, it would be great to have a two way feature (maybe new job) in D365 BC, which can be run to trigger change order in D365 Sales status from In Progress (Submitted) to New.

Anyway, we have workaround, I have created Microsoft Forms, where sales team will enter details and Accounting Department will amend sales order in BC. When the invoice is posted, it will be transferred to D365 Sales and order in D365 Sales will have related invoice with amended lines.

Moreover, I will try to make Out - of - the - box solution for the change of submitted sales order in D365 with using Power Automate, where after running the function, Power Automate app will trigger change of the order in D365 Sales.

On the other hand, I will use our business case as an argument for proposal of the new features in one of upcoming release waves.

    All the best.

    Ilija
