Database size grow after database upgrade

I have upgraded the database from 2009 to 2016. It had size of 15 DB in 2009 but after upgrade into 2016 it has become 23 GB. 23 GB is after I truncated the ldf file . Why database grow this much . Is this normal .

    Yes, I have seen database size growing like this while upgrading from NAV2009 to latest version. I didnt remember exact reason but it is normal.
