Share Vendors and Customers through legal entities?

(0) ShareShare

Hello

I'm setting up AX who have over 20 different legal entities, it's common scenario that customers buy services from more than one legal entity.

Can is share Vendors and Customers through this different legal entities on the same way that I can share Main Accounts keys templates and so forth?

Someone that I have talk to say that it's not possible to share this records between legal entities, so I need to create each vendor or customer manually.

But if it is possible, how can I approach this issue? Should I create an viritual company, organizational unit? Is some technical article that I can read?

I have Bing a lot, but there is nothing special about this, but I assume that orginalization hiarcies have something to do with it.

Any ideas?

    Hi Sigurdur,

It is possible to share tables using Virtual companies and table collections. The virtual company will collect the companies and table collections to share. The Table collections are maintained in the AOT and contains the tables being shared.

Have a look at this page for more information: technet.microsoft.com/.../aa834413.aspx

Note that also some reference data needs to be shared in this case. Also note that it is then not possible to have distinction between e.g. Payment conditions as it will be only one field.

Have a look at my blog for some considerations: www.kaya-consulting.com/.../to-share-or-not-to-share

You can also consider copying the master data between legal entities using e.g. Data Import/Export Framework, AIF or Master Data Management.

The organization hierarchies are not related to the virtual companies. It is also different compared to e.g. Chart of accounts as this table is shared globally by default.

Have a look at the Global Adress Book feature for this. It will not share the customers and vendors in the sense that a Customer created in one company would automatically be available in all companies, but once, say, Customer ABC is created in company 1, GAB will allow you to very quickly create the Customer in other companies, and have all records linked together, so that changes to the Customer are propagated in all companies.

The creation of the customer in other companies will still be manual, but I suppose automating this through code would not be very difficult.

    Thanks for the answer.

I tried to set up virtual company and I think I have done that right.

    But what does it mean?

If I'm in company A - creating a customer, will that customer automaticly replicate to company B, C, D, and E?

Can I then add customer in any company in the viritual company group and it will replicate to all another companies?

    Hi Sigurdur,

When you have created a virtual company with some legal entities attached and one or more table collections the data is not copied, but there is one record with the id of the virtual company as dataareaid. So the records are not copied.

When you create the record it is directly visible in the other companies.

In case of virtual companies and global shared data like the chart of accounts and global address book, is indeed does not matter where you create it.

When you create a worker it assumes it gets an employment in the current company, but the worker itself is global.
