Migrate Attachments in Notes window to Doc Attachments

Posted on by 35

We are on GP 18.3 and are just opening all features in GP.

Our attachments for all Sales Orders and Purchase Orders are in the Notes Window attachment locations.

Our attachments are in the new BLOB format.

I am seeking a script that can migrate the attachments from the Notes attachments to the Doc attachment's location.

Once complete, I will turn off the attachments in the Notes via the dex.ini mapping.

This way all users are working in the same manner and can utilize the email capability.

Thanks in Advance,

Scott

I figured out a way to change the BusObj paths to have the Note attachments show up under the doc Attach instead as we wanted.  I tried turning off the Olepath in the Dex.ini; however, it keeps prompting to rebuild it, even if I keep the path blank, it shows the paperclip icon to attach attachments back to the Notes.  Is there a way to turn this off in 18.3?

    Hello Derek,

Thanks for the information.  I am surprised no one else asked for this feature in a migration utility or script.  This way it stops unnecessary attachments in the Notes windows.

Have you found any other information or is there someone we can escalate this to?

If I'm understanding, I don't know that there is a way, as one would reference the document itself, while the other references the note index, we would need to somehow connect the note indexes back to the document, then update the links, which would require knowing exactly how Dynamics GP builds the attachment links.

This may be the closest document we have >> community.dynamics.com/.../document-attach-vs-notes-and-how-to-locate-whether-a-master-record-has-a-document-attached  >> I'm not sure how much this is going to help in this case.

I'll keep looking and update if I find anything more.....maybe others in the Community have more information from their own experiences.

    Thanks
