    a) Hard disk space & memory are sufficient

    b) We don't have much knowledge on SQL Server, kindly suggest what we need to check

    c) Our log is clear & we clear it on fortnightly basis.

    d) General ledger setup "Use Legacy...." is True

About the slow performance, this problem can be caused for several hardware factors, hard disk space, memory, in how many servers was installed.

Another causes can be the SQL server maintenance, have you backup your database? which is the size of the log file? which one is your recovery method?

More questions, did you use item tracking with serial or lot numbers?

can you check in the general ledger setup if the "Use Legacy G/L Entry Locking" is true or false? check this link blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../gl-entry-table-locking-redesign-in-microsoft-dynamics-nav-2013 about the last question.

Session automatically stop three/four times daily but shows status running,

is this would be the cause of slow performance ?
