Hi. I'm using Dynamics 365 v9 Online with the App for Outlook to sync tasks created in CRM to Outlook.
The syncing is working but in Outlook it is quite limited. For example there is no link to the CRM Task (i.e. 'Open in CRM' button). Is it possible to show this button? Or provide an easy way for the user to open the Task or the Regarding record?

It would be too many steps for the user to search Outlook for the CRM Task record. I'm looking at having a one-click solution for the user to access the CRM Task or the CRM Regarding object from the native Outlook Task.
Below is a native Outlook Task which was synced from CRM. You can see I have inserted a URL to the regarding object in the Task description. This was very simple to do with a Workflow. This is a fine workaround for now.

Clear. Currently App for outlook doesn't have the option to directly access the CRM Instance. While you could check regarding contact/account from the 'Owner' & 'Regarding' field in the following screenshot. I believe that is why MS doesn't publish the link to D365 function in App for Outlook since they think you could already check related entity record info in the Addin.

It's useful to have Tasks in Outlook because the users get the reminder notification 10 minutes before the due date. Having a link back to CRM would be useful to allow the user to look up details of the regarding contact/account.
The "Open in CRM" feature was available in the old CRM for Outlook Client. What I've decided to do to get around this issue is write a plugin which appends a unique URL of the CRM Task to the task Description field.

You should search related task from App for outlook and check related properties like the following screenshot.
So I am not sure why would you want to access CRM from App for Outlook. The feature mentioned from your question description is belong to by design question which truly needs to post in Idea forum as above suggest. While I a curious about your business background.

Unfortunately, App for Outlook is not available on Tasks in Outlook currently. Please submit/vote on this idea at our ideas forum as we constantly look at the ideas with top votes to include in our roadmap.
