AX 2009 Report extension installation on SQL server 2008

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 100

HI everyone,

I am trying to install this extension. When I run the Setup, I get the following message : "You must install SQL server 2005 Reporting Services Service Pack 2 before installing the report extensions".

According to the AX 2009 requirements, SQL server 2008 should be OK. I have installed the hotfix 957312 as recommended by Microsoft.

Has anyone experienced the same problem ?

 Thanks

 Michael

    Thanks Mohammed,

I was not aware of this link. I downloaded the new hotfix, installed the dll files in both Components32 and Components64 directories as detailled in the article. But when I run the setup to try to install the Report extension, I still get the same error!!!

    Hi Mohammed,

I have opened a case with MS and I got this answer :

The fix you mentioned (957312) does offer SQL 2008 compatibility for AX 2009 RTM. The key factor for installing reporting extensions is to copy the .dll supplied in the hoftix into a shared location containing the AX 2009 install media. Please ensure that this has been completed.

Even with the DLL in place we have seen this type of error on server that have previously had SQL 2005 installed, or a server that has any SQL 2005 components currently installed. It seems even if SQL 2005 has been uninstalled there are sometimes some remnants left behind that cause the installer to throw this error. Verify that there are no SQL 2005 components installed and especially watch for SQL express (as Visual Studio and some other apps may install this if a full install is done on the machine). Remove any such components and verify that there are no SQL 2005 pieces left behind, such as assemblies in the GAC (C:\Windows\Assembly)

My DBA has checked all this and he told me that Server 2005, SQL express and VS have never been installed on this server.

So we're still enable to deploy this report extension.

Anything else that I could check ?

    Thanks

    Michel

Installing AX 2009 Reporting Extensions in MSSQL 2008 & WIN 2008 When we try to install AX 2009 SP1 Reporting Services on a PC running SQL 2008, we get an error saying that MSSQL 2005 SP2 is required. Well there is a solution to this issue which is as follows:

    1. Locate the AX Reporting services dll from the extracted AX 2009 SP1 folder [\\AX2009SP1\support\axsetupresources\microsoft.dynamics.setup.reportingservices.dll;File Version - 5.0.1000.52]

    2. Extract the AX 2009 .iso to a shared folder

    3. Copy the microsoft.dynamics.setup.reportingservices.dll into the folder: \\DynamicsAX\Msi\Components32\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\50\Setup \\DynamicsAX\Msi\Components64\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\50\Setup

    4. It will ask to replace the existing dll having File Version - 5.0.593.0. Say Yes and replace.

    5. Then Install AX Reporting Services extensions. It works fine and the Reporting Extensions are installed nice.

This works for some people but not for me. I've tried everything possible to make the, now most dreaded error of my existence, You must install SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Service Pack 2 before installing the reporting extensions. Disappear! But no success!

I started out by installing a Microsoft Server 2008 x64 on a Vmware virtual machine

Updated the OS and installed Dynamics AX 2009 with a 2008 MSSQL SP1 x64 Server

Installed a EP & Role Center on Windows Sharepoint Server 2007 on the same machine as the DAX 2009

Got the dreaded "You must install SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Service Pack 2 before installing the reporting extensions" I have installed the following on the DAX 2009 Vmware virtual machine

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services 10.0 OLE DB Provider

    Microsoft Analysis Management Objects

    Microsoft ADOMD.NET

    KB959494

    KB960158

    KB957312

    KB956568

Now I have tried pretty much everything know to man to make this work. Can anyone tell me if this is just wrong from the start or am I getting warm in configuring this thing? Is there something I am forgetting? Could there be something I haven't done on the SQL. Please help me?

     kind regards, gphinriks

    Hello,

We 've got the same problem here:"You must install SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Service Pack 2 before installing the reporting extensions"

We installed Dynamics AX 2009, then  we updated it to SP1.We installed the 957312 hotfix and patch the dll.

Yet, we still have the problem...

Is there something new about it ?

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    David

     Hi,

We have the same issue.  I have SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services installed and double check that Service Pack 2 was in fact installed also.  I tried the above solutions and still am getting the error message.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Trisha

    We finally fix it.

We needed to get the kb959494 fix.

remark: The reporting extension need to be installed on the Database server (not on the AOS server).(We firstly try to install it on the Aos Server...),

    Regards,

    David

    Hi,

Thanks for the update.  Unfortunately this did not work for us since we were using SQL server 2005 instead of 2008.  However, after total frustration, I completely uninstalled SQL Server and reinstalled and the error is gone!

Thanks for all of the help!

    Trisha
