How to revise the Fixed Assets Migrated data which was uploaded as Opening balance in D365 F&O

Dear Pioneers !!

Hope everyone is doing well !!

I am working with Indian client, few months ago Fixed Asset modules was implemented in MS D365 F&O.

Now, my client needs to revise the OPB data uploaded as on Mar 2024 in D365. Since, at the time of Open balance migration the Written Down Value of Income Tax was adopted as Cost Companies Act. Hence, they need to change the ACQUISITION PRICE of Fixed Assets so that system calculates Depreciation correctly.

Note: As per client requirement - I need to revise the existing Assets data with New Acquisition price, New Service Life & Depreciation periods remaining provided by client.

I need your valuable suggestion/inputs to handle this requirement.

Regards,
Durgarao

    Hi Durgarao,

It is hard to make a suggestion as we don't know much details about this environment yet. Are there already depreciations posted after bringing in the opening balance? Do you only want to update the value models or also make additional postings to correct the transactions (opening balance) for each asset?

    Hello Andre,

Thank you so much for your quick response!!

As a part of OPB migration they have posted depreciation transaction too, post migration no other transaction.

Now, my client just need to import new Acquisition price which is WDV value only (Asset - Dep) with remaining Service Life & Dep periods details only for each fixed asset.

    Thanks,
    Durgarao.

    Hello,

You can try the following approach to revise the Open Balance (OPB) data for Fixed Assets in D365 F&O, follow these steps:
    • Identify the Assets: Identify assets that need updates, focusing on acquisition price, service life, and depreciation periods.
    • Update Acquisition Price: Modify the acquisition price in the Fixed Asset Master Data under the Asset Book.
    • Adjust Service Life and Depreciation Periods: Update the service life and depreciation periods for each asset in the Fixed Asset Book.
    • Recalculate Depreciation: Reverse existing depreciation and recalculate it based on the updated values. This can be done via Fixed Asset Journals or Depreciation Proposals.
    • Use the Fixed Asset Periodic Process: Ensure the updated values are reflected by running depreciation calculations periodically.
    • Consider Bulk Updates: Use Data Management Framework (DMF) for bulk uploading updated values if necessary.
    • Testing & Validation: Validate changes in financial reports and ensure proper reflection in the General Ledger.
    • Final Adjustments: Adjust for any accrued or current year depreciation to ensure accurate financial reporting.

This process will ensure your client can revise asset data accurately and recalculate depreciation accordingly

    Best regards,
