Upgrading from GP 18.2 to 18.5

Posted on by 725
We are struggling with the getting our GO 18.2 systems to GP 18.5.  After the upgrade, we are getting an error after login /FP: Bad component offset.Form: 80Wind: 1FLD:14/ and then  the error /

Unhandled script exception:

SCRIPTS - data area

EXCEPTION_CLASS_SCRIPT_BAD_TYPE

SCRIPT_CMD_COMPONENT/

After these errors, it's back to the login screen and the only way out is to click cancel.

We've done the searches google/bing/chatgpt and most say do a DynUtils Syncronise but this does nothing.  One hit did say to check your disk space on the SQL Server but that isn't an issue.  This is an install on a termional server with GP served up and a remote app.  It is working fine on GP 18.2.

We have removed all the custome addins and updated all the 3rd party apps to the correct version.  Tried removing products from the launch file but nothing works.

Any comments or hints would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, we had modified forms/reports but that didn't turn out to be the main issue.  We install GP in the D:\Dynamics folder.  As it turns out the DynUtil.set file had the wrong path and was DynUtil was run it updated the wrong install.  One other issue is that we tried to go from 18.2 to 18.5 directly, turns out we had to go to 18.3 then 18.5.  We got there in the end, glad it was on a test/practice system.  Good lessons learned.  Thanks for the replies.

We have run successfully on remote aps since GP 10 and maybe GP 9.  We have been a GP shop since 2001.  If I restore the 18.2 snapshot of the system, it all runs fine.  Yes, we have more than a few modified reports/forms and custom Dex code/VSTools addins.  I saw one note about deleting all the .DIC files in the data folder and let the system recreate them.  I will try this once my DBA gets back on the upgrade.  Here is the top and bottom files section of the Dynamics.set file.  Just note we always install GP in the D:\Dynamics folder on the terminal server and all users use the install.  Currently we are support 60+ users at peak usage (end of month/closing).

    Hi Bernie,
it looks like you might have some customized FORMS or REPORTS in your dictionaries.. Have you checked your DYNAMICS.SET file to see where those are located ? do you store them locally in the program folder or somewhere else on the network in a shared folder ?
For the best setup on a Citrix or TS server, read my blog post from 2014: https://dyngpgeek.wordpress.com/2014/07/25/using-dynamics-gp-in-a-citrix-ts-environment/

It probably would help if you could post here the first section of your DYNAMICS.SET file to get a list of the installed modules and also the 1 group of 3 lines related to the GP dictionary (0).
