Opportunity vs. Quote Owner, Problems when assigning an opportunity

Posted on by 47
Hi Community,

we have following scenario:

The owner of an opportunity may change during the lifetime and might be different to the owner of a quote. By assigning the opportunity to another owner, we get error messages regarding access rights to quotes. We are using a CPQ system within D365 from a third party. D365 does not allow to change the owner of the opportunity. For some internal reasons, the quotes section should be locked for some members.

Is there somebody, who had a similar situation - and who has a good answer?

Best regards

Markus

    Hi  MarkusG365
This is because of relationship behavior of these two entities.
There is an OOB 1:N relationship between Opportunity and Quote.
Cascade All Perform the action on all referencing entity records associated with the referenced entity record.
So related Quotes' owner will be changed if you assign opportunity, which is by-design.
An ideal has been proposed and you can ask more people to vote to make this feature a reality in the future.
    As one workaround:
1)Create one new field to store the Quote owner
2)Run a workflow on a Quote each time its reassigned:
If the new quote owner and the opportunity owner match then set the quote owner to new field value.

I hope you can mark my answer verified if it answer your question! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
    Regards,
    Leah
