We have a state unemployment auditor asking for a payroll check register for a year. I have searched and can not find where there is such a thing in GP.
Can someone help me find it?

Try Reports->Payroll->History.
What kind of information is needed? This should be able to produce using Smartlists.
Date, Check number, Employee Name, Amount Pd.
I just can't find one out of the box, which seems weird.

There is Smartlist called Payroll Historical Trx under Payroll->Payroll Historical Transaction that will provide this information. You will need to add the date and you can remove the Audit Control Code.
