Management Reporter stopped working when Exporting building block is caused by Windows patch

We have just encountered an issue with Management Reporter crashing when trying to 'Export' a building block.

Clicking 'Export' and hovering inside the content form will cause Management Reporter to crash with the following error. Everything else seems to work fine.

It also happens when you click 'File > Open' and hover inside the form.

We have Management Reporter 2012 version 2.1.7044.43.

This is fixed when we removed Windows patch KB3059317.

Just had the exact same issue with Management Reporter 2012 CU12. Uninstalling KB3059317 as I type. How did you manage to discover that this Windows update was the issue?

    By accident...

Our Windows patches were deployed to the IT group first. I had to export a building block and MR crashed. I checked with my user and hers did not and I knew that I just had a bunch of Windows updates installed on my laptop recently. We then tediously uninstalled one KB at a time until MR worked again.

Thank you for the info. The solution worked like a charm.

We had the same problem using MR 2012 version 2.1.11002.11.  Once we uninstalled KB3059317 and restarted the server (required), then the export from MR started working again.  Note that to test this we only uninstalled the patch on the terminal server (not the AOS) where the AX client and MR are run from, and it worked.  Also make sure to mark that the patch should not be installed again.  Thanks!  Mark.

Update: Has reported the bug to Microsoft and it is slated to be fixed in the upcoming MR 2012 CU13 release.

On a client machine you just uninstall it like any other updates in the Control panel section.

Just in case someone cannot uninstall this KB for some reason (like in my case), another work around would be to avoid hovering over the area where the report catalogues are listed and using the Tab to navigate and export. So, as soon as you click on Export, move the mouse all the way to the right immediately then when the screen appears, start using the Tab to click on different buttons such as select all, export, etc.

I too, had the issue of MR crashing when attempting to export.  I was able to export the reports by using only my keyboard to navigate the screens.  I did have to be patient as it did not respond quickly, but it eventually prompted me for a file name and path.

    Thank you for your posts.
