Document to explain effects on modules during fiscal calendar period close

Hello All -

I'm comfortable with setting periods to On Hold and Open status by module but what I'm not exactly clear on is what can and can't be done from within modules that are put on hold. For example if Sales Order module is set to On Hold does that mean you can't enter a SO via Projects? Should the Projects module also be put on hold. What type of transactions are prevented when Sales Tax is put on hold?

So the ask here is: can someone share a link to documentation that fully explains the role each module plays when it comes to ledger calendar period close please?

I appreciate any help!

Typically if you want to restrict the postings module area wise you can use the module Status to do that for you. Especially when you have multiple teams working on the modules. that's one aspect of it. Or you can allow /assign a specific group to do posting, without allowing other user or the user group. based on your organization these processes may vary .but I just took examples. refer below article its for 2012 but its explained concept behind it

    Hi BarryR,

I hardly see people using the module specific access.

The main reason is that most companies make use of a month end closing schedule will clearly specifies who has to do what and when.

If you want to make use of the module access stuff you need somebody - probably the finance manager - who has a good and tight overview of what is going on in each department.

That can be difficult and therefore putting the period on hold for all or opening it up for all might be much easier.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    HI,

We have this below link which explains the different fields.

Module access level – specify which users can post to a period in AX 2012 - Microsoft Dynamics 365 Blog

    Thanks,

Thanks Amith, your document is what I was looking for.

I noticed that some of the parameters (fixed assets, cost accounting and payroll) are listed as not having any functionality in AX2012. Do you know if this is still the case in D365?
