Portal Authentication with Account entity

How can I configure the authentication of users from the Account entity into a Dynamics 365 custom Portal?

We use the Account entity to hold customers for the purpose of interfacing with Business Central more efficiently

We want to allow the customers in the Account entity to authenticate into the Portal to access Resource Bookings and other entity data related to the Account

    Hey Dave,

    Unfortunately the portal authenticates based on Contact and thus requires the Contact to be the one signing in. What I would do in this case is create a Contact record for each Account that would solely be used for logging in. Using the OOB relationship from the Contact to Account (companyname) this should allow you to surface whatever data you need as you can utilize the "Parent Customer Id" filters in the portal.

    I would of course have some validations in place in CRM so the Contact cannot be deleted easily, as that would then remove the ability for the stakeholders to sign into the portal, albeit all of the information will still be available on the Account so that will not be a huge worry.
