AX 2012 Cost Accounting Cost Category Question

I know that I can manually add a cost category (CG) to the CG table. There seems however to be another option that automatically populates the CG table with Profit & Loss, Revenue or Expense codes from the General Ledger Chart of Accounts.

Can anyone tell me how can I get the CG table to be populated with these General Ledger account numbers?

Steve

    Hello SteveWhyte,

In the CA parameters you can specify that the cost categories are identical to your ledger accounts. If you specified that the batch job will automatically transfer your profit and loss, cost and revenue accounts as cost categories into the cost accounting module.

In addition, you can define what financial dimensions shall be transferred to the cost accounting module through this form.

    Hi Ludwig

I really appreciate your feedback and I am really learning the Cost Accounting module thanks to your earlier comments.

Quick Question, is it possible for me to use the cost accounting module to look at the transactions or other costs associated with an inventory item that is manufactured? If so, how?

    Regards,

    Steve

    Hello Steve,

Are you interested in a drill-back to the production postings?

To my knowledge that is not directly possible from the cost accounting data and cost accounting reports because the module is a kind of encapsulated module that is primary used for internal accounting purposes that is done after everything else is already recorded.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hey Ludwig:

A really big thanks for your response above and it has made things much clearer for me....as usual.

I have to do some reading to find out how to treat with labor and overheads using the cost accounting module. Any pointers from you would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Steve

    Hello Steve,

What is available in the standard is an integration into production and project through the cost / service categories

This allows you to retrieve quantities of produced items or posted project hours.

The labor and other overheads that you post through your production orders should be posted on specific ledger accounts that are setup in the costing sheet. You should be able to include them as ordinary cost categories in the cost accounting module.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

You re indeed a God send. Where do I go on this community site to give your ratings a big high five?

As you know I am just getting back into AX. Do you have any tutorial/documentation on how to ascertain the labor and other overheads through production orders and which flows through the costing sheet as your response above says?

    Regards,

    Your mentor

    Hello Steve,

On the 'old' cost accounting module there are not much tutorials/documentation available.

I just checked the MS partnersource website and found some tutorial documents available there. As far as I know these are the only official documents from MS on that module. So, please take a look at the website and download them.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
