Query Timeout Error when Printing Checks

Our side was printing checks this morning and ran into the following:

System Message 63: [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]Query timeout
expired

The process would start and would stop a few seconds later with the above message in the Event Log.  After some investigation the issue was a trigger in the AcctXRef and AcctSub.  The resolution was to add the SET NOCOUNT ON parameter to the appropriate triggers and the issue was resolved.  

This site has been operational on SL2015 for 3 or 4 years and fairly stable.  I'm a bit confused as to why this would become a problem all of a sudden?  Any thoughts out there?

    Hello JG,

    I'm guessing that they ran procs and indexes on the database.
