Problems posting vendor payments when the postings ae not in sequence.

When posting a vendor payment using a payment journal with a reference, I am experiencing problems when the transactions are posted out of sequence, so to spell it out:  posting number 6 after number 8.

To get around this problem, I post the payment journal by changing the reference (re-numbering) but this does not leave a neat audit trail as the same reference number does not follow the transaction all the way through the process.

Any suggestions ?

    Hi,

Please check your Increment-by No. value for Payment Journal No. series & Posting No. series lines. System assign next document no. base on this. If it's "1" which mean after 6 it will fill 7. but it's "2" then it will increment 2 no. which mean "6" to "8".

    Hope this will help.

    Many Thanks,
    Manan

What are the exact error message you get when you try to post?

This is the message when I try to post a document out of sequence.

“You have one of more documents that must be posted before you post document xxxxxxx according to your company ……..”  the end of the message cannot be read at the time.

The problem is the payments are created in one sequence but cannot be posted in the same sequence.

Is there a way to remove the rule that the payments have to be posted in sequence?

Please check in your general journals page if you have a posting no. series defined on your journal.

If you have you can try to remove that posting no. series. and try posting again.

If you want to manually number your transactions you can remove both no. series.
